All have landed in this list of top 25 best paying tech companies in 2017, according to Glassdoor, based on self-reported salary data from thousands of employees.But, when factoring all the jobs across their whole companies, none of those three powerhouses landed at No. 1And that's just one of the surprises this list has. Tech giants are some of the best companies to work for in America this year, according to job search site Indeed's annual '50 Best Places to Work' report, released Thursday.

The rankings are curated from Indeed's millions of company reviews from employees. Those that made the list of top 50 were the most highly ranked on overall employee experience. While compensation and job security are important factors for job satisfaction, today, strong company culture and sense of community are becoming just as much of a priority, according to Indeed senior vice president Paul D'Arcy.

'Tech companies exist in an environment where competition for talent is brutal. In this environment, they continue to try new ways to attract and engage the best candidates,' D'Arcy told TechRepublic. 'Many of the tech companies are newer, and have been built in an era where employee experience and culture are requirements for building a great company.'

Though the list includes a range of industries, several similarities emerged from employee reviews, Indeed noted.

'We are seeing people describe these exemplary workplaces as 'inspiring' and 'engaging' by maintaining excellent company culture, ensuring quality leadership, and offering competitive pay and benefits,' D'Arcy wrote in a press release. 'Employees also praise the companies on this list for being mission-driven organizations that are leaders in their respective industries.'

The full list of 50 also included Microsoft and Cisco.

Facebook's company culture encourages employees to be bold and solve the problems they care most about, according to Indeed. The company operates in small teams that move fast to develop new products.

5. Google

Google employees cite the culture, work/life balance, and compensation and benefits as top reasons why they enjoy working there, according to Indeed.

6. CenterPoint Energy

CenterPoint Energy's regulated utilities distribute natural gas to 3.3 million customers in six US states. The company jumped from No. 37 last year to the top 10 this year.

7. DTE Energy
