Games you need to buy to play are Van Helsing, Grim Dawn, Victor Vran, Torchlight 1 and 2, and um..that's all I can think of off the top of my head that I've played.
Only play Path of Exile if you're willing to put in the time. It's a huge time sink. If you weren't able to figure out how sets work in D3, then PoE gem system and passive tree aren't for you.

You give up way too quickly, my friend. Try joining groups for regular rifts and gr rifts. You'll get the gear you to clear a 70 need in a few days. I'll happily help you out by running you a few times.

Grim Dawn and Titan Quest use the same game engines so are very much alike in skill tree designs and a few other things. Both are great games.
Skylanders, while primarily a children's game, can still be quite challenging if you jack up the difficulty a signifcant amount. I play this one with my kids. Think of it as the gateway drug to more advanced ARPG's. The son is now playing Diablo 3 but we still go back to this from time to time.
Diablo 1&2. Both classics and great to play.
Sacred - More of an open, static world. The world is very big and enemies respawn so you can never run out of things to kill. I only played the first and it was very fun as well.

I consider myself a casual player as far as Time; as far as knowledge and how well I know the game I would say I am advanced intermediate.
I play 45 minutes a day give or take and you simply have to enjoying killing demons. I have always been swayed to the builds that are the most fun and fluid playstyle in killing.
For example I have been playing DH MULTISHOT and IMPALE now for 3 months or so. I had 12 days off of work for the holidays so I replaced that FT job with a FT Diablo 3 habit. I managed to get a Usable Primal for my UE build and a pretty nice Ancient in 50+ hours and I am speed running GR80 and maxing at GR99 for Impale. Even once you pass GR70 and unlock primal items you are only going to see a primal at your speed of playing about every 15-20 hours.
I see one at an average of 7-10 hours when I am 3-4 minute clearing GR80.

The games others have suggested are all great choices, but if you struggle to do a GR70 in D3, you will never see the end game in any of the other games.
